A hearing protection initiative introduced by Beatson Clark has been recognised by British Glass at the annual Glass Focus Awards in Manchester.

The glass packaging manufacturer won the Health and Safety Action award sponsored by Glass International.

Beatson Clark’s Sales and Marketing Director Dawn Pugh, Marketing Manager Charlotte Pike and Health and Safety Manager Diane Bainbridge attended the awards ceremony at the National Football Museum on 16th November.

Occupational noise-induced hearing loss is a widespread health issue, and Beatson Clark recognises that the hearing protection devices it provides for employees are individual and require correct fitting to provide the appropriate level of protection.

The company has now invested in hearing protection test validation equipment which measures any noise leakage, ensuring that the hearing protection is effective.

Beatson Clark is the first glass manufacturer in the UK to use the 3M E-A-Rfit Dual-Ear Validation System, and since being introduced earlier this year the equipment has produced excellent results.

It ensures that the hearing protection devices worn by workers offer the intended level of noise reduction. The level of protection is measured directly and objectively, without the need for the employee to listen or respond to the test signals.
Dawn Pugh commented: “We were over the moon to win this award, which recognises the important work we’re doing to ensure effective hearing protection for our colleagues.

“Thanks to Diane Bainbridge and her team for the work they have put into this initiative.”

British Glass CEO Dave Dalton said: “It was a pleasure to gather with representatives from the industry in Manchester to celebrate the incredible achievements from across the glass supply chain.

“As we face challenges both within the UK and beyond, it is all the more vital that we come together to acknowledge and celebrate the immense strides we have made over the past year.

“We are all extremely proud of the work we have done over the last year, and we look forward to continuing to build on our successes in 2024 and beyond.”
