Yttrium-Silicon-Aluminum Oxynitride Glass Fibers

Fibres of glasses containing 3.2% and 6.6% nitrogen were pulled freehand in air and from glass rods in nitrogen. Continuous fibres of the former glass were melt-drawn in nitrogen while being wound in air outside the melting furnace. The fibres retained the desirable properties of the bulk glass.
