Ultrasound: A Tool For Process Improvement

The use of ultrasound to detect defects in metal and aid medical diagnosis is well-established. However, its potential to improve process technology in the foundry and glass industry is less well known. In this paper the author looks at some recent research projects which aim to harness the technology to speed up production, improve quality and reduce energy costs.
