A Three Dimensional Mathematical Model Of A Float Glass Tank Furnace

A practical three dimensional mathematical model of a float glass tank furnace incorporating the batch melting process has been formulated. A semi-empirical model of heat transfer between flame and batch/glass was suggested for the boundary condition of heat transfer on the batch and glass surface. The model equations were solved by using the SIMPLEC scheme. By computation the velocity and temperature distribution in a typical float glass were studed. It was found that a special circulation current existed near the charging end. The computation also showed that the glass under the batch flowed towards the centre line of the furnace from both side walls while near the hotspot the opposite occurred.
