Thermocouples, particularly those of modern design and construction, continue to have an important part to play in today's glass industry. As this article explains, the use of precious metal sheaths for protection of the thermocouple elements against molten glass and the high temperatures involved, has resulted in a life expectancy that is almost equal to that of the forehearth itself.
