Synroc Ceramics For Nuclear Waste Immobilisation

The development of titanate ceramics for incorporation of high-level radioactive wastes is first reviewed, tracing the evolution of synroc-C designed for Purex-type waste through glass-ceramics for tank wastes and pyrochlore-rich ceramics for surplus impure plutonium. The remainder of this paper deals with scientific aspects of the waste ceramics focusing on actinides.
