Spectrophotometric Determination Of Oxidation States Of Selenium In Glass

Selenium has long been used as a colouring agent in glass. It has been shown that this colouring ability in glass is dependent on the oxidation state of the selenium. I glass selenium can exist as colourless Se (IV) and Se(VI), pink to red Se(O), or brown to reddish brown Se(-II). The work presented here was done in response to a need for an analysis of these oxidation states at 15-25ppm Se (total) level.
