Specific Energy Consumptions And Emissions Of Soda-Lime Glass Furnaces Operating In Europe: Possibilities For Improvement

This article, using some European data published in the EEC IPPC Reference Document on the Best Available Techniques (BAT), analyses the ranges of energy usage and emissions of furnaces melting container, flat and tableware glasses. The data showed substantial differences that still exist between the different sections and between different furnaces operating in the same market sector. The conclusions clarify that a better understanding of natural gas combustion and heat transfer problems for both conventional and oxy-fired furnaces is an important key for better future performances in energy consumption and air pollution.
