Quantitative Characterisation Of Nuclei Formation By Raman Spectroscopy Of Lithium-Aluminosilicate Glass Ceramics Doped With Titania And Zirconia

Due to their nominal zero thermal expansion and high transparency, glass ceramics in the Li20-Al203-Si02 system found a variety of technical applications. Titania and zirconia are used as effective nucleating agents in parent glasses for heterogeneous nucleation of high-quartz solid solutions crystals. The catalyzing role of these oxides is explained by phase separation and subsequent crystallisation of ZrxTi(2-x)O4 crystals under thermal treatment.
