Oxygen Vacancies In Silica And Germania Glasses

A statistical mechanical technique with no adjustable parameters is used to calculate the density of oxygen vacancies in pure germania glasses. The calculated values are in fair agreement with the experimental values obtained by Schurman. A slightly different technique utilizing one adjustable parameter is used to calculate the density of oxygen vacancies in binary germano-silicate glasses.
