Oxidation And Corrosion Resistance Of Magdoloma-Carbon Refractories With Boron Bearing Additives

Various boron-bearing materials (CaB6, B4C, and ZrB2) and their mixtures with metallic additives (Al-Mg alloy) have been used as antioxidants in carbon bonded magdoloma specimens, containing 10% graphite. Their effects on oxidation in air and corrosion by various slags have been determined. The results show that simultaneous use of two types of additives leads to pronounced improvement of both oxidation and corrosion resistance. In terms of corrosion resistance, magdoloma-carbon outperforms doloma-carbon specimens.
