[Opinion] Consumers Prefer Glass For Beverages

In this article, Matt Bevington, Account Director for Dragon Rouge (USA) comments on a recent electronic survey on a beverage packaging conducted last year by Dragon Rouge in the USA and Europe which states that consumers overwhelmingly prefer drinking beer and spirits from glass. The objective of the survey was to assess perceptions and behaviours associated with beverages packaged in glass, plastic and aluminium, and to determine consumer preferences. Key findings amongst US consumers were: 98% prefer glass bottles for liquor; 96% prefer glass for beer; 89% prefer plastic bottles for water; 42% prefer plastic bottles for soft drinks, 36% prefer aluminium cans; and 22% prefer glass. While 46% of the respondents admitted to having consumed beer in plastic bottles, 86% said drinking beer from plastic is less desirable than from glass.
