A New Raw Material Alternative For Refractories

A new synthetic refractory aggregate, Bonite, has been developed to expand the properites of dense calcium hexaluminate from the matrix fines to the whole castable formulation. Bonite is a pre-created aggregate and thus shows no volume increase due to the formation of new phases during heatup. As a high quality dense synthetic calcium hexaluminate, it is a complement to the high alumina aggreates, tabular alumina and spinel. It is composed of around 90% calcium hexalumnunate with only a minor content of corundum, and traces of calcium dialuminate. It has a CaO contnet of typically 8.5%, 3.0g/cm3, which is ~90% of the theoretical density of calcium hexaluminate. Bonite is available in various closed and open grain sizes.
