New Legal Horizons For Waste And Recycling

The UK's improved recycling performance is being driven by legislation from Europe. But what can we expect next from Brussels? This article looks at The 6th Environmental Action Program on Thematic Strategies. Thematic Strategies form a key component of the EC's Action Programme, which aims to give strategic direction to environment policy over the next decade. There are seven Thematic Strategies being developed covering: soil protection; waste and recycling; sustainable use and management of resources; protection and conservation of the marine environment; sustainable use of pesticides; air pollution; and urban environment. Of these, the strategies on soil and waste are the most likely to impact directly on recycling in the UK.
