Neon Solubility In Silicate Glasses And Melts

Neon solubility has been measured for the first time in lithium, sodium and potassium silicate glasses at 500 deg C. Additional measurements were made for neon solubility in sodium silicate melts at 1400 deg C and in float and container glass melts at 1300 deg C. These data are combined with literature data for neon solubility in silicate melts to produce a simple expression for estimating neon solubility in the melts from the composition. Data are analysed using the partial molar solubility model to produce solubility coefficients for a number of common oxides using in producing glasses.
