Modern Windows

Thermal transport in windows caused by conduction/convection and by radiation is discussed in this article. The reduction of thermal losses achieved by using rare gases and low emissivity coatings is quantified. The saving potential of evacuated window systems is also demonstrated. Furthermore, a variety of daylighting and light switching systems fitted into glazing elements are represented. The properties, applications and energy saving potentials of such elements are described.
