Silicon carbide (SiC) is one of a small and select category of synthetic non-metallic minerals that are manufactured through electrofusion. As such, it is a high value mineral, requiring high energy costs for production, and commanding premium prices. SiC's main applications are in the metallurgy, abrasives and refractories markets.
