Investigation Of The Significant Factors In Elemental Migration From Glass In Contact With Food

Historically, glass has been recognised as a chemically inert material. Due to development in production practices and increases in recycling rates, migration testing has been undertaken on a range of glass compositions and articles in common use for food contact purposes. The testing in this project has shown that elemental migration is still low from commonly used glass compositions. However, certain types of decorated glassware have, under acidic conditions, been shown to release elements that may be of interest, if such articles were used in food contact.
