Introducing Vermicular Cast Iron For Mould Production

Vermicular cast iron, which has been used for some time in mechanical and automotive applications, was recently introduced into the world of moulds for glass production. Vermicular cast iron was created as a result of nodular degeneration. The cast iron includes graphite elements which are half laminar and half nodular. Glassmakers who have used vermicular cast iron remain satisfied and cannot be persuaded to go back to using laminar cast iron. The results of studies and trials at Fonderie Valdelsane have led to the creation of two different cast irons: K250 GV 6/2 and K250 GV 600, which are described in this article.
