An Integrated Approach To Optimum Furnace Design

Furnace design is one of the most important topics for glass manufacturers. Today, one of the trends in furnace campaign is to extend it to more than 10 years, even in the container glass field. Multiple factors need to be integrated to realise a well balanced furnace, as well as proper selection and application of refractory. In this paper, the authors discuss elemental technologies used to achieve optimum glass furnace design with a view to reducing glass defects including bubble, seeds and cat scratch.
