Heat Flow Calculations - Worthwhile Or Worthless?

Many assumptions are made regarding the calculation of steady-state heat flow through a mass of refractory, however, many of them are unfounded. The various assumptions, implicit and explicit, are examined from the heat conductivity value through to the change in heat flow of the refractory lining with time.
