Glass Formation And Spectroscopic Properties Of Rare Earth Doped Calcium Aluminate Based Glasses Containing Halide Ions

Previous investigations have shown that rare earth doped calcium aluminate (CA) based glasses are promising layer host materials exhibiting relatively high quantum efficiencies. In an attempt to upgrade the stimulated emission cross sections of these glasses and to enhance their quantum efficiencies further, fluoride ions were incorporated into the glass. This paper reports on the results of optical absorption, fluorescence decay, and index of refraction measurements made on several of these glasses which were doped with Nd3+.
