Fire Glass: Uk Regulation Change

This article discusses how changes to Document N of the UK Building Regulations will impact on the specification of fire resistant glazing. As of 6th April 2013, Document N was withdrawn, with the functional requirements and technical guidance taken into Approved Document K: Protection from Falling, Collision and Impact. The drivers behind this change have essentially been to simplify the UK Building Regulations and remove duplication of guidance within the Approved Documents. However, Approved Document N has not been subsumed into Document K. Under the new guidance, testing methods and impact classes referenced in the standards (previously to BS 6206:1981) are now also covered by BS EN 12600:2002.
