Effect Of Mact On The Ceramic Industries

The 1990 Amendments to the US Clean Air Act established the program known as the National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP). The intent of the regulations was to establish standards for air emissions in various manufacturing industries. These regulatory developments have created the need for MACT (Maximum Achievable Control Technology), to enable all major sources to reach the level of performance beyond the current 94th percentile. The MACT program includes the establishment of a baseline emissions rate, known as the MACT floor. All major sources will have to meet this standard when the regulations are fully implemented, now projected to be no later than 2002.
