Dual Fuel Firing Of Glass Furnaces

The majority of continuous glass melting furnaces in the UK are designed to operate with fuel oil, but a relatively small number have been converted to natural gas firing in recent years. This paper discusses different dual fuel furnace designs for firing gas and oil either simultaneously or on an interruptible supply basis. The objective in all cases is to achieve the most efficient fuel utilisation. A brief review of the two fuel supply systems up to a furnace is also given.
