Dependence Between Faraday Effect Of Aif3-Baf2-Caf2 Glasses And Species Of Rare Earth Ion

The wavelength dispersion in Faraday effect of 40AlF2.22.5BaF2.22.5CaF2.10LnF3 glasses (Ln=La, Ce, Pr, Tb and Dy) have been examined. Glass containing LaF3 has a positive Verdet constant in the wavelength region from 250 to 850nm and the magnitude of Verdet constants decreases with increasing wavelength. On the other hand the Verdet constants of glasses containing other rare earth ions are negative and the absolute magnitude of Verdet constants decreases with increasing wavelength.
