Densification Of Magnesium Oxide With Dicalcium Silicate

Densification of MgO and its mixes with dicalcium silicate has been studied at 1300, 1350 and 1400 deg C. 5 and 10% by weight of dicalcium silicate were mixed with magnesium oxide and pressed in the form of pellets of 12mm diameter. The pellets were fired at different temperatures and their bulk densities were determined. The density of MgO and also the mixes increased with the increase in the firing temperature. It was observed that the bulk density of the pellets decreases with the increase in dicalcium silicate in the mixes fired at each temperature while the calculated relative density increased with the increase in dicalcium silicate content.
