Control Of Refractory Properties By Change Of Granulometric Compositions Of Raw Materials

Granulometry plays an important role in deciding the ultimate properties of any material, be it refractory or concrete or other materials which need compaction. Porosity is intimately related to granulometry which, in turn, controls other physical and thermo mechanical properties of refractories. Lower porosity yields dense products and this is achieved through controlled grading of the input materials. The grading must be continuous where all the fractions are present, which is never possible in gap grading. This study is an effort to recuse the apparent porosity through control of grading of the input materials and to correlate other properties with porosity of a refractory.
