Cerium Oxide As A Route To Acid-Free Polishing

Cerium rich rare earth concentrates is generally considered by the scientific community to be chemo-mechanical in nature, with the cerium acting as a reactive chemical agent with regards to the glass surface, as well as being a fine abrasive. The mechanism for this chemo-mechanical polishing is described in detail in this paper.
