Today's glass manufacturers are operating melting furnaces that are becoming more environmentally friendly. One method of achieving this goal, which is becoming increasingly acceptable in application, has been the introduction of the gas/oxy combustion systems. Although some regenerative furnaces have used gas/oxy burners to boost production or reduce exhaust gas volume, the preferred, and typically most cost-effective furnace design for utilising this type of combustion system, is the direct-fired melter.
