Attenuation And Breakage In The Continuous Glass Fibre Drawing Process

Work is in progress to define and demonstrate a more efficient glass fibre drawing process using a largely standard production drawing tower. The computer model is used to predict the forming cone shape, forming stress, and break rates for a specified set of process variables. The results of computations for cone shape and forming stress are found to be in agreement with literature data. Calculated break rates are in poor agreement with the author's data, so the work continues on both the model and the process.
