Glass Champions: Raising the standard, one container at a time

Image

At British Glass, we know glass is more than just packaging – it’s a statement. That’s why we’re proud to launch Glass Champions: a campaign celebrating the brands, retailers, and independent groups choosing glass as their primary packaging, for all the right reasons – quality, safety, and sustainability.

From refillable beauty products to premium spirits, baby food to kitchen staples, glass remains the packaging of choice for those who care about what goes into their products – and what doesn’t. It’s a mark of quality, integrity, and commitment to doing things right.

Meet some of our glass champions:

York Gin

York Gin launched the UK’s first 100% recycled glass gin bottle, produced by Verallia in Yorkshire from post‑consumer recycled (PCR) glass, which travels just 27 miles to their distillery, reducing embodied carbon and shipping emissions. Their refill station in York encourages customers to reuse spirit bottles, while a trade-focused jerry-can refill option supports hospitality partners. York Gin also operates a carbon-neutral distillery powered by 100% green electricity, uses sustainable locally-sourced labels, drives electric delivery vehicles, maintains zero-to-landfill operations, and sources glass and materials from regional suppliers.

UpCirlce Beauty

UpCircle Beauty puts circularity at the heart of everything it does, from ingredients to packaging. Known for repurposing waste ingredients like coffee grounds and fruit stones into high-performance skincare, UpCircle pairs this ethos with glass packaging that’s reusable, refillable, and endlessly recyclable. The brand offers a closed-loop refill system, encouraging customers to send back empties for reuse, and provides products in glass jars and bottles to reduce reliance on less recyclable materials. With a strong commitment to zero waste, ethical sourcing, and sustainable beauty, UpCircle shows that glass is the natural choice for brands that care about what’s inside – and out.

Belu

Belu leads with purpose, supplying still and sparkling mineral water, choosing glass as a deliberate, values-driven packaging option that reflects its commitment to both people and planet. As a social enterprise, Belu gives 100% of its profits to WaterAid, while making environmentally responsible choices across its supply chain. Its glass bottles are not only fully recyclable but widely reused in hospitality, supporting a truly circular economy.

A badge of excellence:

The Glass Champions badge is more than a campaign asset – it's a clear signal to customers, that a brand is committed to high standards and long-term sustainability.

In an increasingly complex packaging landscape, these businesses have made a deliberate, values-led choice. They recognise glass as pure, infinitely reusable, and trusted by consumers who care about both product and planet.

Join the movement:

By choosing glass, these champions are setting a higher bar. Whether it’s food, drink, cosmetics or beyond, they’re proving that quality and sustainability can – and should – go hand in hand.
