W&Y To Lose Red Stripe And Corona

Wells and Young will lose the brewing and distribution of Diageo's Red Stripe Lager and the handling of imported Corona Extra from Modelo next year as expiring contracts, some of which have been in place for 30 years, are not renewed. In 15 years, Corona sales rose from 150,000 cases to over five million. It is not clear where Diageo will source the Red Stripe from but Molson Coors will distribute the Corona. An interesting move when A-BI hold a non controlling 50% stake in Modelo but the Mexicans were miffed when A-B was allowed to sell its stake on to InBev and a takeover panel subsequently agreed with the Belgians.
