Commenting on the conclusion of an assessment of the international trading markets for recycled glass, a WRAP report concludes that "An intra-EU trade in cullet makes economic & environmental sense, but export outside of Europe, while it provides more carbon dioxide savings than domestic aggregates use, is currently more marginal from an economic perspective." Domestic use in the manufacturing of glass fibre insulation is environmentally & economically attractive, WRAP said, but export & fibre use together might still not be able to use all the additional glass collected. That would mean that alternative markets would still need to be developed.
