Wordwide Wine Market Tops Euros 100 Billion

According to the French financial newspaper, Les Echo, the worldwide sales of wine, both still and sparkling, reached Euro 101.5BN in 2002 for a consumption of 225M hectolitres with a forecast of Euro 111BN by 2006. Still wines are by far the most popular with an 80% share of the world consumption while wines retailing at more than 5 Euro/bottle represent 12.9% of the world consumption with a continuing upward growth of over 7% in volume per year over the past five years.
