West Indies Glass - Caribbean Expansion

An agreement reached between a Trinidad and Tobago conglomerate and a major Jamacian distillery has created the Caribbean's largest glass manufacturer. A landmark joint venture between the Caribbean's foremost rum distillers, J Wray & Nephew Ltd and the 117-year old Ansa Mcal conglomerate now makes Jamacia's West Indies Glass Company Ltd., a partly owned subsidiary of the Port of Spain-based Ansa Mcal. When combined with Ansa Mcal Trinidad Group's Carib Glass, the investment makes Ansa Mcal the largest glass manufacturer in the Caribbean islands, the group said in a recent statement. A letter of intent to establish a joint venture was signed in late 1997. Over the following eight months, senior management and technical staff from Carib carried out a thorough assessment of West Indies Glass while assisting in the management of the company.
