Welcome Initiative For Packaging Standard

Representatives from major packaging users, retailers, trade federations and hygiene agencies have welcomed an initiative from the Institute of Packaging (IOP) to produce a technical standard for companies supplying packaging to manufacturing retailers of branded foods. Around 60 people at the inaugral meeting at the IOP's headquarters in Melton Mowbray agreed to move the standard forward. Two working groups were set up to work on the standard and the method by which it will be accredited and enforced. The completed standard is planned for the end of 2000 as a sister to the widely acclaimed British Retail Consortium Technical Standard for companies supplying retail branded foods products.
