The EC published in the OJ, C311 E/21, on 19/12/066, a Common Position (EC) No 34/2006 of 4 December 2006 adopted by the Council, acting in accordance with the procedure referred to in Article 251 of the Treaty establishing the EC, with a view to adopting a Directive of the EP & of the Council laying down rules on nominal quantities for prepacked products, repealing Council Directives 75/106/EEC and 80/232/EEC, & amending Council Directive 76/211/EEC, The Common Position, which will return to the EP for a second reading in the New Year, was adopted as a possible compromise text. Whilst most prescribed quantities for most foods would be abolished, Member States which currently prescribe mandatory prescribed quantities for milk, butter, dried pasta & coffee might continue to do so for a period, the length of which has yet to be agreed. Only a simplified range of nominal quantities for wines and spirits would be retained at Community level.
