Waterford Wedgwood To Buy Rest Of Rosenthal

Waterford Wedgwood is to make an offer for the outstanding shares of Rosenthal, the German ceramics maker in which it already has a 34% stake. The offer price of DM200 a share is 18% premium of Rosenthal's closing price on Wednesday, 3/12/97. Waterford will pay a total of DM105.8m (£35.8m) if its offer is fully taken up. The purchase of Rosenthal, which has 25% market share in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, will strengthen Waterford's internatioanl network. It has a strong presence in the US and Japan.
