Waste - Extended Deadline For Packaging Waste Reprocessors Applications

On 8 April, following an urgent Government consultation, DEFRA announced that legislation has been put in place to enable the Environment Agency to grant applications for accreditations for both reprocessors and exporters for the remainder of 2005. Only reprocessors and exporters that have been accredited by the Environment Agency can issue packaging waste recovery notes (PRNs) and packaging waste export recovery notes (PERNs) which are used as evidence of compliance by producers with recycling obligations under the Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Waste) Regulations 1997 (as amended) and the parallel legislation in the developed administrations.
