Vitro of Mexico has complete the upgrade of its biggest glass container furnace to help meet growing demand. The furnace, at Vidriera Queretaro, will now be able to produce up to 15M pieces more per month which represents a 25% increase. Demand from customers, particularly from makers of soft drinks, pushed Vitro's glass container sales up by 0.09% in 2002 and continues to grow. Vitro is also expanding in glassware, with an order from Pepsi Cola for drinking glasses for the drinks firm's soccer promotion. Vitro has, meanwhile, completed a joint venture deal to extend its coverage of the EU flat glass market. Vitro Cristalglass, a glazing maker in Spain, 60% owned by Vitro, has concluded the joint venture with Vidraria Chaves in Portugal through which the companies will co-ordinate their production and distribution of laminated architectural glass.
