Viridor Drops Borders Glass Job

Viridor has abruptly pulled out of a commercial glass collection service, affecting around 100 businesses. Scottish Borders Council said it had been given “very short notice” that the service would end on 1 April, 2013. No change was planned to domestic glass recycling. A council spokesman said it had talked to Viridor and other potential service providers but, “at this time we do not have any firm proposals in place." The council has advised commercial premises to dispose of glass through standard residual waste collections until the situation is resolved. “We are aware that Viridor’s decision to remove this service has put local businesses in a difficult position and we believe our actions outline that we are taking this very seriously,” the spokesman said.
