Vietnam's Ministry of Construction has asked the government for permission to sell the Vietnam Glass and Ceramics for Construction Corporation (Viglacera) float glass plant, located in the southern province of Binh Duong. After 5 years of operation the plant has incurred losses of more than US$5M. the plant, which was put into operation in 2002, has production capacity of 300/tpd. Vietnam currently has seven companies producing construction glass with a total daily capacity of 1,650/tonnes. Two other projects are underway, including a float glass factory for NSG with capacity of 500/tpd and another with a daily capacity of 900/tpd. The two new float glass projects will become operational in late 2008, raising the total capacity of construction glass in Vietnam to 3,050/tpd.
