Videocon Boosts Capacity

Videocon Group of India has invested Rs500M to increase its manufacturing capacity for glass shells for television tubes from 9M units/year to 16M. It said the move makes it the world's sixth biggest maker of glass shells. The project is due to be completed in November, and will provide what the firm claims to be the world's biggest capacity single site glass shell production facility. Videocon started glass making at its Bharuch site, in Gujarat, in the 1990s with technical co-operation from the USA as part of a scheme to substitute for imports. (whole item)
