US-based Monofrax has over sixty years' experience in glass refractories, making diversified lines of fused cast refractories. These include a range of products composed of Alumina-Zirconia-Silica (AZS), a material characterized by a fine-grained body of crystalline zirconia and alumina in a silica matrix. By diversifying the zirconia in each of the products int he AZS range, the glass furnace can be zone to optimize performance and cost. The firm maintains that CS-3 with 34% zirconia, is the most versatile and widely used fused cast refractory product. It is used in glass contact, paving, super-structure and overcoat tile. The company describes the CS-4 with 36% zirconia as an excellent refractory selection in furnace areas where a compromise between the performance and costs of CS-3 and CS-5 is preferred.
