According to reports the city of Spokane in Washington, USA, has found a willing buyer for its large pile of waste container glass. Since 2008, the city has been storing glass collected at the curb and from Regional Solid Waste System transfer stations. Although some of the glass has been crushed to use for roadbed, the pile has been mainly untouched. The Spokane City Council has announced that it will consider a contract with eCullet, a CA glass recycling company that has a plant in Seattle, USA. With an estimation of over 10,000/t, the company will cover hauling costs and give the city $5/ton for glass that is not sorted by colour and $10 for glass that is sorted by colour. "It financially makes sense and it will be reused in a way that's consistent with our values and our regulations," said Geoff Glenn, Operations Superintendent for the Spokane Regional Solid Waste System.
