[Usa] Power Deal For Anchor

Low-cost electricity supplies to Anchor Glass Container Corp. NY, will continue thanks to legislation announced 21/06/05 in the state capital of Albany, New York. In June 2005 the renewal of the state contract under which Anchor & other companies get the cheap power looked far from certain. Anchor Glass General Manager Michael J. Sopp said at the time that if the contracts due to expire at the end of 2005 were not renewed, the plant could close. However, on 21 June 2005 the New York governor's office said that state leaders agreed on legislation that would extend the low-cost power program. The power will be replaced with inexpensive hydroelectricity from state-owned power plants in Niagara Falls & along the St. Lawrence River. 400 employees produce more than 2M containers a day for the beer, food & juice industries. About 90% are sold to customers in New York state.
