Food Safety Legislation in the USA will place new responsibilities on FDA Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN). Recent news from the FDA includes: H.R. 2749: Food Safety Enhancement Act - Passed House in July, 2009 and action on a companion bill in Senate (S. 510) is the next scheduled step. HR2749, Section 216, Requires a "warning label" if ceramic tableware or cookware includes a glaze or decoration containing lead (even if the products comply with FDA guidance "action levels.") This will require follow up. The US-based SGCD & CSC are lobbying against the inclusion of this section in the final legislation (negotiated between House & Senate after legislation passes both houses).
