The Naval Undersea Warfare Centre (NUWC), Newport, USA, recently awarded EDO Corporation of New York two contracts worth $1.5M to produce new torpedo sonar technology. EDO will fabricate sonar arrays consisting of broadband projectors and hydrophones, and will support higher level integration and testing by NUWC. Earlier in the year, NUWC awarded the company a contract for the production of TR-302 submarine depth-sounder transducers for use on attack and guided missile submarines. Work on the $5.5M, firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery supply contract is being performed by EDO's Electro-Ceramic Products unit and is expected to be completed by May 2009. The Marine Corps Systems Command awarded EDO a contract for a new generation of field communications equipment known as the transition switch module.
