Following a glass leak at the beginning of 2009, the all-electric furnace at the Cameron Family Glass Packaging (CFGP) plant at Kalama in Washington State, USA, has restarted operations. The furnace, which is reported to be the largest in the world, with an output of 250 tonnes of flint soda-lime container glass per day, was designed by UK-based Electroglass. It was commissioned in October/08, initially performing well, however, a significant glass leak occurred in January 2009, towards the end of a colour transition being undertaken at the plant. Following a controlled shutdown, investigation and repair, the furnace was re-commissioned in May and has been up and running again for the last few months, according to a statement from the supplier.
